The objective of this technical cooperation (TC) is to support the improvement of solid waste management in Ecuador with a vision of climate change mitigation and an inclusive circular economy, through the execution of activities in the city of Cuenca, on the island of Galapagos, and at the national level. Leveraging the South Korean experience in sustainable waste management, technologies, and information.
According to the TC document:
The main risks associated with this TC are: (i) the low institutional capacity of the country in solid waste management; and (ii) low involvement of local governments in project implementation. To mitigate these risks, the components include knowledge sharing and capacity building to strengthen the results and lessons learned in the TC. As such, the sustainability of the TC will be focused on providing the beneficiaries with the required tools and pathways for the projects to achieve financial sustainability,
therefore operating after the assistance from the Bank has been completed by including in studies, policies and plans the components of sustainability and operation.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF IADB
The Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) or Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC)-funded project. If you submit a complaint to MICI, they may assist you in addressing the problems you raised through a dispute-resolution process with those implementing the project and/or through an investigation to assess whether the IDB or IIC is following its own policies for preventing or mitigating harm to people or the environment. You can submit a complaint by sending an email to MICI@iadb.org. You can learn more about the MICI and how to file a complaint at http://www.iadb.org/en/mici/mici,1752.html (in English) or http://www.iadb.org/es/mici/mici,1752.html (Spanish).
