Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to bank documents, the proposed project consist of the construction and operation of a ~420MW natural gas power plant (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) power plant which will draw gas from Sasol reservoirs via planned Sasol gas processing infrastructure, located in the vicinity  of an existing Sasol Central Processing Facility (CPF). The preferred project location is ca. 500 m south of the CPF. The CPF, and the proposed project site is located in the Temane/ Mangugumete area, Inhambane Province, ca. 40 km northwest of the town of Vilanculos. The Govuro River lies 8 km east of the proposed CCGT site. The estimated footprint of the CCGT power plant is ca. 20 ha.

The Project involves the construction of a 25 km 400 kV electrical transmission line to connect the power plant to a new Vilanculos substation, which is being developed as part of the ~563 km 400 kV Temane Transmission Project (TTP) connecting Vilanculos to Maputo. Additional associated infrastructure and project facilities may include: a) gas pipeline from the CPF to the power plant and b) access road, construction camp and contractor laydown areas.

ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF IFC

The Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who believe they are likely to be, or have been, adversely affected by an IFC or MIGA- financed project. If you submit a complaint to the CAO, they may assist you in resolving a dispute with the company and/or investigate to assess whether the IFC is following its own policies and procedures for preventing harm to people or the environment. If you want to submit a complaint electronically, you can email the CAO at CAO@worldbankgroup.org. You can learn more about the CAO and how to file a complaint at http://www.cao-ombudsman.org/
