Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to project documents:

The Project is a brownfield mine operation located in the district of Namuno in Cabo Delgado Province of northern Mozambique, approximately 265 km by road west of the port town of Pemba. The Project consists of an open pit graphite mine, with a mine life of approximately 50 years, and an onsite processing facility, which include  crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, drying, screening, and bagging. Syrah plans to upgrade the operation in 2022 to achieve production of up to 350,000 tpa of graphite concentrate. Proceeds from the DFC support would be used to finance (i) expansion of the tailings storage facility (the “TSF”), (ii) working and sustaining capital, and (iii) studies related to the construction and development of a vanadium (another critical mineral) processing facility from the mine tailings in the U.S. The Project required the acquisition of approximately 400 hectares of mostly agricultural lands (machambas).
