Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

This is financing for the Plunge Pool: This component of the project will includes;

  1. Technical assistance to Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) in detailed design, supervision and preparation of bidding documents for the works associated with reshaping of the plunge pool;
  2. Actual works associated with the reshaping of the plunge pool;
  3. Anvironmental and social mitigation activities; and,
  4. Strengthening the project implementation team for effective project monitoring and implementation. This will be supported through the provision of:
    1. Consulting Services;
    2. Civil Works;
    3. Goods, Equipment and Non-Consulting Services;
    4. Operating expenses.

This component requires an estimated USD80 million and the EU indicated a willingness to provide a grant of Euro74 million to support this component. ZRA is in the process of preparing the procurement documents for the component. The Spillway Structures: This component will include exactly the same subcomponents as the Plunge pool and it is estimated to cost USD150million for which resources are being sought from the WB and the AfDB.
