According to the IFC, the proposed investment is for up to US$30 million (capped at 20% of total commitments), along with a co-investment envelope of US$15 million in LeapFrog Climate Fund, LP. (the Fund or LeapFrog Climate I), a US$600 million (target) private equity (PE) fund focusing on growth-stage, climate-themed investments in South Asia, Africa, and Southeast Asia (SE Asia).
The Fund will focus on subsectors within four key thematic areas, (i) Clean Energy (decentralized renewable energy, energy efficiency, storage & distribution solutions, energy as a service, and waste to energy); (ii) Mobility and Logistics (electric vehicles, and the value chain of e-mobility such as battery swapping, charging infrastructure, electric vehicle fleet operators); (iii) Food and Agriculture (supply chain optimization, farm-level energy efficiency/mechanization, and tech-enabled services); and (iv) Built Environment (clean cooking/heating/cooling solutions, circular economy, and wastewater treatment).
The IFC categorized the project risk as FI-2.
As stated by the IFC, the Fund’s target size is US$600 million. IFC’s proposed investment in the Fund is up to US$30 million, not to exceed 20% of total commitments; along with a co-investment envelope of US$15 million.
As stated by the IFC, the Fund will be managed by LeapFrog Investments Group, Ltd. (the Fund Manager or LeapFrog), a fund manager headquartered in Mauritius.
