According to the IADB, the proposed transaction consists of IDB Invest's participation as anchor investor in the issuance of a thematic bond for up to US$160 million issued by Banca Mifel, S.A., Institucion de Banca Multiple, Grupo Financiero Mifel ("Mifel"), under its current issuance program. IDB Invest expects, in due course and under market conditions, to subscribe up to US$75 million, equivalent to approximately 47% of the total amount of the issuance, while the remaining amount will be placed among other investors. The use of the funds will go towards expanding the financing offered by Mifel in the form of sub-loans targeting its green portfolio.
Additionally, IDB Invest is structuring advisory services that may be focused on Sustainable Finance, including segmentation of the green and social portfolio, in addition to a possible leadership program for talent.
The issuance to be subscribed by IDB Invest will have the following characteristics: (i) it will consist of senior bonds denominated in United States dollars ("USD"); (ii) it will have a term of up to five years; (iii) it will be thematic and to be labeled as a green bond; and (iv) be aligned with the International Capital Markets Association ("ICMA"). The proceeds of the issuance will allow Mifel to originate new green loans in Mexico.
According to Bloomberg, Banca Mifel S.A. provides commercial banking services. The Bank offers accounts, insurance, credit cards, wealth management, investments, and financial advisory services. Banca Mifel serves customers in Mexico.
