Project Description

According to the Bank’s website, the EBRD invested RON 131.3 million (ca. EUR 26.7 million) in a senior non-preferred sustainability bond issuance of RON 500.9 million launched by Raiffeisen Bank S.A., a commercial bank incorporated in Romania, on 10 August 2022. The bond has a 5-year maturity, with a call option after the fourth year, and is expected to be listed on the Luxembourg and the Bucharest Stock Exchanges. Proceeds of the sustainability bond will be used for eligible green and social projects in line with Raiffeisen Bank's sustainability bond framework.

The project contributes to the resilience of a systemic bank in Romania, facilitates capital market development in the country and expands access to finance for SMEs from underdeveloped regions.

A financial intermediary then lends these funds to their clients (private actors) in the form of loans, bonds, guarantees and equity shares. The Project Complaint Mechanism (PCM) is the independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who have been or are likely to be adversely affected by an European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the PCM, it may assess compliance with EBRD's own policies and procedures to prevent harm to the environment or communities or it may assist you in resolving the problem that led to the complaint through a dialogue with those implementing the project. Additionally, the PCM has the authority to recommend a project be suspended in the event that harm is imminent.
