According to the Bank’s website, the transaction technical assistance (TA) is designed to complement a proposed loan of up to $100,000,000 to ECOM Agroindustrial Corporation Limited and its subsidiaries (ECOM) for the ECOM Climate-Resilient Coffee Value Chain Project in India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea (PNG), and Viet Nam. The loan will be used to finance (i) permanent working capital to support sustainable coffee procurement from smallholder farmers; and (ii) operating expenses for extension services, research and development, and pilot sustainability projects to improve the climate resilience of smallholder farmers to ECOM Agroindustrial Asia Private. It will contribute to improving the climate resilience of smallholder coffee farmers and will provide long-term support to their livelihoods.
The TA financing amount is $1,250,000, which will be financed on a grant basis by ADB’s Technical Assistance Special Fund (TASF-other sources).
ECOM is the world's largest coffee miller and one of the world's top merchants of coffee, cocoa, and cotton. It works with over 800,000 farmers in 40 countries. As an integrated commodity originator, processor, and merchandiser, ECOM focuses on partnering with smallholder farmers to provide traceable and certified products to branded product manufacturers.
