According to the FMO, the financing supports the expansion of the Vientos Bonaerenses wind farm. The project involves the addition of 102.4 MW of wind capacity, increasing the total installed capacity to around 202.2 MW. The financing for VB consists of a USD 100 million Senior Unsecured Corporate A/B Loan, guaranteed by AES Argentina, comprising an A Loan of USD 20 million funded by IDB Invest and a B Loan participation with FMO’s contribution of USD 20 million as a B-Loan lender and the participations of selected foreign financial institutions under IDB Invest’s B Loan structure. The expansion consists of the construction and operation of Phases III and IV of the Vientos Bonaerenses wind complex, located in the municipalities of Tornquist and Bahía Blanca, respectively, in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Project comprises 16 wind turbines (eight per wind farm), and includes the engineering, procurement, supply, installation, and construction of: (i) the wind farms; (ii) an expansion of the existing 33 kV electrical substation to evacuate the energy generated to the Argentine Interconnection System (Sistema Argentino de Interconexión – SADI) through the Tres Picos 132/33 kV transformer substation; (iii) an internal underground medium-voltage power and communications network; (iv) an operations and maintenance building; and (v) internal access roads and auxiliary roads within the wind farms.
According to the FMO, Vientos Bonaerenses S.A. ("VB") (Previously Energética Argentina S.A.) is an Argentine power generation company focused on wind energy. The company is fully owned by AES Argentina and benefits from a guarantee for this transaction from its parent company.
