As stated on the project disclosure page, IFC has signed an Upstream Engagement Letter with Bhutan Power Corporation, aiming to strengthen the company in independently developing its corporate insurance framework, as well as robust plans for cybersecurity and climate change risk management. To facilitate this process, IFC will conduct an initial assessment to identify existing gaps, followed by targeted capacity-building workshops designed to enhance the organization's expertise. Additionally, should both IFC and the company identify further needs, IFC may extend its support to include capacity building in contract management and environmental & social management practices.
The upstream program aims to provide technical assistance to Bhutan Power Corporation to enhance capacity to self-develop corporate insurance framework, cybersecurity risk management, and Climate change risk management plan.
As reported by Devex, Bhutan Power Corporation Limited was launched as a public utility on the 1st of July 2002 with the mandate of distributing electricity throughout the Country and also providing transmission access for generating stations for domestic supply as well as export. One of BPC’s basic mandate was to not only ensure that electricity is available to all our citizens but to also make sure that it is reliable, adequate and above all within the means of all consumers.
