As stated by the IFC, the overall objective of this project is to support the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) to develop and foster green finance in the country. This will be achieved by creating an enabling environment through introduction of a green finance taxonomy, ESG guidelines and capacity building. This will create foundational reforms to facilitate green financing in the country.
The project is anticipated to create building blocks and infrastructure to result in investments in green, sustainable or sustainability-linked financial instruments.
As stated by Bloomberg, the National Bank of Cambodia operates as the central bank in Cambodia. The Bank's duties include the management of monetary and exchange policies, the regulation of banks and financial institutions, and the control of the national currency, the Riel.
