IFC will support the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), in implementing the East Panama Road Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the first PPP transaction under the country’s newly adopted PPP Law. As lead transaction advisor, IFC will work with MOP to structure the PPP and implement a competitive tender to select a qualified private sector partner that will improve, enhance, rehabilitate, build, operate and maintain approximately 244km of roads east of Panama City. This project is part of the MOP’s larger program to improve 2,000 km of intercity and metropolitan roads in a series of transactions, which carry approximately 80% of the country’s interurban traffic.
