Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the transaction technical assistance (TA) complements a proposed senior secured loan of up to $50,000,000 to JSC Rustavi Azot (RAI) for the Rustavi Azot Indorama Energy-Efficient Fertilizer Project in Georgia. The loan will be used to finance (i) capital expenditure to modernize and refurbish existing ammonia and high-density ammonium nitrate production facilities, and improve energy efficiency; and (ii) working capital to support RAI’s fertilizer inventories as well as critical spare parts, which will enable uninterrupted plant operations.

The TA will complement the loan by building the capacity of farmers in Georgia in carbon efficient and resilient farming methods. This will include (i) completion of one assessment of agriculture practices specific to women and the opportunity to integrate carbon-efficient and resilient farming methodologies in a women-inclusive manner; (ii) capacity building of at least 700 farmers (of whom at least 225 are women) in carbon-efficient and resilient soil management, farming practices, and functional financial literacy; (iii) piloting of an affordable mobile soil analysis program for farmers; and (iv) provision of on-farm individualized advisory services to 20 women farmers. TA training will be offered to all farmers in communities where RAI sells fertilizers and will not be exclusive to farmers that purchase fertilizers from the company. The TA training materials will be shared with key government agencies in Georgia.
