Project Description

The project's readiness report states "..The ensuing project may include: (i) a new waste management and resource recovery facility that reduces the carbon footprint of honiaras waste sector and stems the flow of waste to the ocean; (ii) the closure and rehabilitation of the existing dumpsite, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions; (iii) expansion of waste collection services; (iv) institutional strengthening; and (v) support for behavior change campaigns, coordination, policies, and regulations. The prf will also support policy dialogue on financial sustainability and measures to enable greater private sector participation. The proposed financing of the ensuing project by adb is estimated at $13.5 million, with approval targeted in 2024."
