The proposed amount of 225 thousand USD would be provided to Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan with the purpose of the small-scale transaction technical assistance (S-TRTA) to prepare the proposed ensuing project. The S-TRTA will ensure that the project will be prepared to acceptable technical, safeguards, and procurement standards. The ensuing project is expected to meet the high readiness criteria before possible Board consideration. The government requested ADB in 2019 to finance the project, which was confirmed as a 2020 pipeline project.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project will contribute to improvement of road networks in Southern Tajikistan by rehabilitating the project road sections of Bokhtar Dangara and Khulbuk Kangurt, which link directly to two major international networks (Central Asia Regional Economic Corporation [CAREC] Corridors 5 and 6, and Asian Highway No. 66) and serve as a connector of major economic centers in the region. Despite their strategic importance, the sections' condition has remained deteriorated and unequipped with necessary road safety measures. This lowers travel efficiencies, causes difficulties in movement of people and goods and subsequently constraints economic development in the region.
ACCOUNTABILITY MECHANISM OF ADB
The Accountability Mechanism is an independent complaint mechanism and fact-finding body for people who believe they are likely to be, or have been, adversely affected by an Asian Development Bank-financed project. If you submit a complaint to the Accountability Mechanism, they may investigate to assess whether the Asian Development Bank is following its own policies and procedures for preventing harm to people or the environment. You can learn more about the Accountability Mechanism and how to file a complaint at: http://www.adb.org/site/accountability-mechanism/main
