Project Description

As stated by the IFC, the investment comprises (i) an A loan up to US$40 million and (ii) a B1 loan up to US$60 million to Agricola Alvorada S.A. (Alvorada), an agribusiness group in Mato Grosso, Brazil, engaged in warehousing, grain trading, logistics and agro-input retail. Proceeds will fund traceable grain sourcing, partially a corn ethanol plant, drying automation, and eucalyptus plantations supplying biomass to warehouses and the plant.  

This is an upstream-enabled project under the ongoing Brazil Sustainable Land Project (#608215). IFC’s Upstream Project with Alvorada focuses on capacity building for farmers and technical assistants, strengthening the Company’s supplier sustainability and productivity. Training supports conversion of degraded pasture into productive agriculture, reducing deforestation pressure while intensifying cattle and lowering emissions. It reinforces a circular model: Alvorada buys farmers’ corn for ethanol and supplies DDG back as animal feed, boosting linkages and incomes.
