According to bank provided information, the proposed project is an unfunded trade finance facility under IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (“GTFP” or the “GTFP Facility”) of up to US$10 million. The purpose of the proposed IFC trade line is to reinforce Coris International Bank Tchad’s (the “Issuing Bank” or “CBI TD”) ability to support SMEs’ trade finance needs by reducing cash collateral requirements and broadening the network of correspondent banks, especially in a country where trade plays a key role in the economic. The GTFP limit will be booked under the African Trade and Supply Chain Finance Recovery Initiative (ATRI) umbrella, which is supported by the International Development Association Private Sector Window’s Blended Finance Facility (“IDA PSW-BFF”) (the project).
The current facility is a trade finance guarantee processed under GTFP with a limit of up to US$10 million on IFC’s own account to CBI TG.
Founded in 1953, CBI TD is a mid-tier commercial banking institution, majority-owned at about 68% by Coris Africa, a holding company established in 2023, and the State of Chad (20%). The Bank primarily focuses on large corporates, multinational and retail clients but is gradually expanding to MSMEs by proposing a comprehensive range of financial products and services through a network of 13 branches.
