According to the Bank’s website, the proposed IFC investment is up to US$70 million financing package for SK leaveo Co., Ltd., a biodegradable materials producer in South Korea. SK leaveo is a subsidiary of SKC Co., Ltd. (“SKC”). The IFC financing package comprises of: (i) equal to US$40 million from IFC’s own account; and (ii) up to US$30 million mobilization from other investors.
Proceeds from the proposed IFC investment will be used to support SK leaveo in constructing biodegradable material production facilities in Hai Phong, Viet Nam.
This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability (2012). Key E&S issues assessed include i) the Company’s management and monitoring systems to assess and manage environmental and social (E&S) risks and impacts related to the construction and operation of the Project facility; ii) labor and working conditions, and occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and practices, iii) monitoring and management of air emissions (process/energy), and wastewater discharge, iv) hazardous material/waste and chemical monitoring, and management practices including process safety aspects, v) life and fire safety and emergency preparedness and response, and vi) the company’s stakeholder engagement activities.
The total Project’s cost is estimated to be US$500 million, a part of which will be funded by the IFC financing package of US$40 million.
Headquartered in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, SK leaveo Co., Ltd. - SKC is a holding company, and its subsidiaries are engaged in the businesses of semiconductors, chemicals, and materials. Other shareholders of SK leaveo include Daesang Corporation and TBM Co., Ltd.
