Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to bank provided information, the project consists of the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a 300.2MW wind power plant located in the Sitti Zone, Somali Region, Ethiopia, under the terms of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), supported by an Implementation Agreement entered into with the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, represented by the Ministry of Finance.

IFC Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory has undertaken a gender assessment of AMEA Power at corporate level; recommendations from the corporate assessment will be integrated at the project level as appropriate.   

Investment Description

Total Project cost is estimated at up to US$507 million. IFC will provide up to US$65 million in senior debt financing from its own account and the remaining debt of up to US$313 million will be provided by AfDB, co-mandated lead arranger, and a mix of B and parallel lenders.

AMEA Power is a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investments, ultimately owned by the Al Nowais family in the United Arab Emirates, with 11.5% owned by Softbank Group Corporation.
