Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

The general objective of this project is to contribute to the improvement of agricultural productivity, climate resilience and ecological sustainability of the agricultural sector in Suriname. The specific objectives are to: (i) strengthen sustainable management of the Nanni Swamp watershed through improved biodiversity-positive irrigation and drainage systems for farmers in Nieuw Nickerie; (ii) increase readiness of farmers for extreme climate events by implementing a multi-hazard early warning system for floods, droughts and salinity intrusion in Nieuw Nickerie; (iii) promote the adoption of more productive, climate-smart technologies and practices by improving the quality and outreach of extension services, with the support of modernized agriculture information systems; and (iv) promote the strengthening of agricultural value chains through a pilot network of integrated, community-based AgriHubs as a coordination and innovative business model for the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
