According to bank's website, the proposed project aims to foster resilient growth and productivity across the Lower East Chao Phraya (LECP) river basin by delivering a modernized and more flood-resilient multi-purpose irrigation canal system through improved conveyance of water for irrigation and removal of excess water for drainage and flood risk reduction. The project's investments will (i) retrofit existing canals through embankment strengthening, dredging, and upgrading of regulating structures; (ii) modernize water management through the use of digital technologies, forecasting, decision support, asset management and control systems to improve system performance, reliability and service levels; and (iii) enhance community resilience, livelihoods and disaster preparedness. An integrated, basin-wide water management approach will improve agricultural productivity while delivering the flood management infrastructure essential to continued industrial and logistical investment in the LECP river basin.
