According to bank's website, the proposed project aims to improve the work-readiness and job outcomes of participating youth through workplace-centered training and by connecting them to job opportunities. Building on the proven systems in UYEP phases I and II, UYEP II targets disadvantaged youths--those out-of-school and out-of-work for at least six months--with a structured pathway to employability and inclusion. Participants first complete (i) Breakthrough Employment Skills Training (BEST) for work readiness. They then receive stipends for (ii) Urban Work and Services, contributing to urban livability (e.g. foot paths construction, park upgrades, drainage improvements and fencing). Youth can then access industry led training through (iii) internship (with subsidized stipends) with private employers. Upon graduating, youth can benefit from (v) referral services that connect them to employment and labour mobility opportunities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); and micro enterprise support. The project will also provide targeted support to PNG youth workers to access overseas employment opportunities through overseas work readiness training and referral support services. Building on the project management information system, the project will also support the development of a labor market information system (LMIS) and undertake surveys to improve the functioning of PNG's labor markets through the collection, integration, and use of labor market information.
