Project Description

According to bank's website, the proposed project is Phase 2 (Haske 2) of the Niger Energy Access Program Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) which aims to increase access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy services in Niger. Haske 2 aims to provide new access to electricity to about 2 million people through grid, mini-grid, and off-grid solutions, and the dissemination of clean and efficient cooking solutions. Phase 2 will scale up activities under Phase 1, enable new low-cost solar generation capacity through the private sector and support the reform of the electricity sector. Niger is one of the least electrified countries globally, with an electricity access rate estimated at 23 percent in 2024. The operation will support the implementation of Niger Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative (M300), national electrification efforts, sector reforms and foundational energy infrastructure for jobs creation.
