According to the world bank disclosure statement, Kenya's Roads for Rural Economic Development Project (RREDP) aims to foster broad-based employment and regional equity by investing in roads in rural areas, bridges, logistics, and digital connectivity. The project's major components include upgrading approximately 500 kilometers of roads in rural areas and construction of bridges to climate-resilient standards, enhancing digital infrastructure in selected regions, improving community access to socio-economic services, and developing logistics hubs to reduce post-harvest losses. Additionally, RREDP will support the structured devolution of road management to county governments, strengthen institutions under the Ministry of Roads and Transport, and support the local construction industry through training, financing, and community-based contracting, all to stimulate job creation and industrial development.
