Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to bank's website, the approved project aims to support recovery from flood-related shocks and strengthen the resilience of urban infrastructure and service delivery systems in Mozambique, with a specific focus on leveraging investments for protecting and creating jobs. The project targets populations exposed to recurrent flooding by improving access to resilient infrastructure and strengthening emergency preparedness, planning, and response systems. By integrating resilience principles, MozResilience seeks not only to restore damaged infrastructure, but also to reduce future losses, protect livelihoods, and create conditions for sustained urban services. The project is structured around mutually reinforcing components that combine infrastructure recovery with institutional strengthening. Component 1 focuses on the resilient rehabilitation and upgrading of flood-damaged urban infrastructure in selected municipalities, applying build back better principles in order to restore services, support local economies, and reduce future flood risk. Complementing this, the emergency preparedness and response component strengthens early warning systems, temporary shelters and coordination across national and municipal institutions to improve readiness and reduce losses during future events. A third component supports municipal capacity building, metropolitan coordination, and investment planning, including tools and diagnostics to improve asset management, attract financing, and maximize job impacts of urban investments. Together, these components establish an integrated platform for phased resilience investments, enabling municipalities to move from recovery toward longer term, investment led urban resilience and job creation.

Early Warning System Project Analysis
