Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to bank's website, first phase of the propoed project aims to expand, strengthen, and modernize transmission and distribution infrastructure to enable greater integration of variable renewable energy, facilitate electricity imports, and accelerate electricity access expansion. These investments will be anchored in sector reforms and the utility's modernization and digitalization.Phase 1 will also embed robust institutional capacity building and analytical work to prepare and de-risk investment interventions in subsequent phases. Improved operational and financial performance at EDM, together with a comprehensive assessment of off-grid solutions, is expected to pave the way for increased private sector participation in generation and rural electrification in later phases of the MPA.
