Project Description

According to the WB, the project is part of a larger Pandemic Fund financed regional entity proposal to support the Inter-American Institute for Regional Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean by reinforcing multisectoral collaboration at the human-animal-environment interface in order to reduce the risk of zoonotic outbreaks--particularly avian influenza--through a coordinated One Health Approach. The project will support IICA and its partners to strengthen regional governance and formal multisectoral continental coordination structures; enhance data integration and joint risk assessments, enabling countries to adapt to evolving threats; harmonize and modernize risk analysis, surveillance and genomic platforms across countries; and upgrade regional preparedness, biosecurity, and sustainable financing mechanisms for avian influenza and other high-risk zoonotic threats.
