Project Description

According to bank's website, the proposed project aims to support the Government of Zimbabwe in implementing a whole-of-government approach to girls' empowerment, leveraging strengthened social protection systems. The intervention will build on the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM)--the country's largest social protection program, fully government-funded--and will finance the implementation of a comprehensive BEAM module targeting adolescent girls at risk of dropping out of school. In addition to providing financial support to keep girls in school, the program will support services that address key drivers of school dropout, including adolescent pregnancy, child marriage and regressive gender norms. The operation includes activities to strengthen systems for targeting, service delivery, and monitoring and evaluation of these interventions.
