According to the WB, the Project Development Objective is to enhance the social and economic reintegration of women returnees in Honduras by improving their access to livelihoods and psychosocial support services.
The proposed grant will pilot a holistic reintegration model that combines psychosocial care, employability, and institutional strengthening. Through partnerships with local universities, municipalities, and private sector employers, the project will build local capacity, create sustainable referral systems, and reduce the risk of secondary displacement. The active involvement of private sector actors in job placement, workplace mentoring, and long-term hiring incentives ensures that the model is not only community-driven but also market-responsive, increasing its viability and sustainability beyond the project's lifespan. Its strong emphasis on community-driven development, participatory monitoring, and institutional anchoring ensures that outcomes can be sustained and scaled by the Government of Honduras, the private sector, and development partners after the grant period. Specifically, the project will: Provide trauma-informed psychosocial support to women forcibly returned or deported to Honduras to address the emotional and mental health challenges that often undermine reintegration efforts, often including experiences of gender-based violence during displacement. (Component 1) Strengthen their employability through demand-driven technical and vocational training, coupled with job placement services and private sector engagement in sectors that offer sustainable livelihoods. (Component 2) Reinforce specialized institutional frameworks for returnee reintegration by supporting coordination among government, local partners, and civil society to ensure data-driven decision-making and long-term ownership.
