According to the WB, the development objective is to enhance the sustainability of Mexican SMEs and mid-cap firms and promote their integration in global and regional value chains.
The proposed project is a financial intermediary operation that will finance small and medium enterprises' (SMEs) and mid-caps' transition to clean energy and other sustainable practices so as to enhance their competitiveness and facilitate deeper integration into GVCs. Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) will serve as the Borrower and implementing agency, channeling project financing to eligible beneficiary enterprises (BEs) through a range of first and second-tier financial instruments. Targeted BEs will be Mexican SMEs and mid-caps that are part of, or seeking integration into, global value chains, particularly those operating in sectors exposed to transition risks and subject to climate disclosure standards. The operation will comprise two complementary components: (i) Promoting access to sustainable finance for Beneficiary Enterprises, and (ii) Capacity building, technical assistance, and project management.
