According to the development objective is to enable an increase in regional power trade in the Eastern Africa Power Pool.
This project finances technical assistance to strengthen regional electricity market integration and power trade in the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) region. It supports the launch and operation of a centralized day-ahead market, enhances regional grid reliability and operational readiness, and harmonizes regional and national power system planning to facilitate priority infrastructure development--including supporting upstream preparatory studies for public-private partnership (PPP) transmission projects that will be identified during project implementation. The project also focuses on institutional strengthening of the EAPP Secretariat, promoting regional coordination, stakeholder engagement, and women's empowerment in the energy sector. Additionally, it bolsters the capacity and regulatory functions of the Independent Regulatory Board (IRB) to ensure effective oversight, transparency, and harmonization of national regulatory frameworks, fostering a competitive and integrated regional power market. The project is structured along the following components:1.
