According to bank's website, the approved project aims to: (i) strengthen institutional capacity for solid waste management; (ii) improve the performance of solid waste services in selected municipalities; and (iii) enhance environmental conditions at the targeted waste disposal site. The summary of the Project components is as follows:Component 1: Waste Management Governance and Institutional Development: This component will focus on strengthening regulatory frameworks, enforcement mechanisms, and institutional capacities to ensure compliance with the Waste Management Law and support implementation of the recently adopted National Waste Management Plan, enhance data collection and transparency, promote public awareness, and improve the management of challenging waste streams through inter-agency coordination and exploration of public-private partnerships. The activities to be supported will include: 1) Technical Assistance to strengthen the regulatory framework for waste management; 2) Building institutional capacity for improved waste management; and 3) Public Awareness, Behavioral Change and Municipal Support for Improved Waste Management .Component 2: Waste Management Infrastructure Improvements: This component will support the development of a regional domestic waste management center in Niksic, promoting sustainable domestic waste processing solutions, and fostering expertise in modern waste management practices to improve capacity, strengthen inter-municipal cooperation, reduce environmental risks, and ensure compliance with EU environmental standards. The activities to be supported will include: 1) Establishment of Niksic Regional Waste Management Center; and 2) Establishment of a Knowledge Sharing and Visitors Center for Modern Waste Management Practices.Component 3: Remediation of Waste Disposal Site: This component will support the environmental cleanup and risk reduction at one of the legacy waste disposal sites that still exist in Montenegro. The main activity to be supported will include remediation of the Waste Disposal Site at the Aluminum Plant (KAP).Component 4: Project Management: This component will cover the costs for project management, coordination related to staffing, consultancies, and operating costs, as well as ensuring the ESF compliance, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of all project activities in line with the Results Framework.
