Project Description

According to the Bank’s website, the objective of the Third Phase of the Health Security Program Project for Western and Central Africa is to increase regional collaboration and health system capacities to prevent, detect and respond to health emergencies in Western and Central Africa.

There are five components to the project, the first component being prevention of health emergencies. This component includes two subcomponents: health security governance, planning, and stewardship, and scaling-up one health agenda and combatting AMR. The second component is the detection of health emergencies. This component includes three subcomponents: collaborative surveillance, laboratory quality and capacity, and multi-disciplinary human resources for health emergencies. The third component is the health emergency response. This component includes two subcomponents: health emergency management, and health service delivery for health emergencies. The fourth component is the program management and institutional capacity. This component will support the critical building blocks for strong implementation and coordination required for implementing a regional program. Finally, the fourth component is the contingent emergency response component.
