According to the WB, the development objective is to improve farmers' access to agricultural information through digital services.
The project will contribute to improved public planning and farmer decision making in Peru's agri-food sector through investments to optimize the production, quality, availability, and utilization of agri-food statistics, forecasts, and information. The first component strengthens data collection, quality, and geographic specification within MIDAGRI, the Regional Agrarian Directorates (DRAs), and the Agrarian Agencies (AA). The second component improves the application of advanced technologies for data analysis and dissemination in coordination with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEI). The third component develops digital applications in collaboration with agencies that provide technical assistance, weather alerts, agricultural insurance, price information, and other services to to farmers and private stakeholders in Peru's agri-food system. This component will also invest in digital literacy of agricultural producers, equipping them with improved capacity to understand, interpret and apply agri-food information in their farms and businesses. Together, these components aim to improve the efficiency and resilience of Peru's agri-food sector through better digital services information systems. Private sector partnerships will be leveraged to develop specific data applications, such as EUDR compliance.
