Project Description

According to the WB, the development objective is to increase renewable energy generation and reduce energy costs in the Legal Amazon.

he objective of the operation is to increase renewable energy generation and reduce energy costs in the Legal Amazon. The operation has two components.The first component establishes a credit line for renewable energy, grid enhancement and energy efficiency sub-projects, supporting investments to accelerate energy transition, fuel cost reduction, and support economic development and job creation. It will finance sub-projects such hybridizing diesel power plants with solar PV and battery storage, connecting isolated systems to the national grid, reducing losses, and improving energy efficiency.The second component focuses on capacity building and technical assistance for BASA and other stakeholders, including studies on potential new BASA financing instruments, enhancing institutional capacity, supporting sub-project identification and due diligence, and providing training on renewable energy technologies.
