Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the WB, the objective of the Project is to increase access to selected community-based nutrition interventions by pregnant and lactating women and children under-five in Selected Vulnerable Districts.

The proposed project will empower the communities by strengthening the community platforms to deliver quality nutrition services to pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 years of age. The project will cover 4 vulnerable districts across all provinces of Sri Lanka (Nuwara Eliya, Rathnapura, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee). These vulnerable regions contain roughly 8 percent of the population in the country. The direct beneficiaries of the proposed project are pregnant and lactating mothers (approximately 29,793) and children under the age of five (approximately 196,309). The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Government of Sri Lanka. The project is expected to be implemented over 28 months (2026 - 2028) with a proposed investment of US$3.0 million ($2.73 million Recipient Grant and $0.27 million Bank Supervision Grant). The project will support the following activities, identified in consultation with the Ministry of Health: (i) Community mobilization and capacity development; (ii) Promotion of nutrient-rich diet and nutrient-dense food supplement; and (iii) Project management and administration, monitoring and evaluation.
