According to the World Bank, the development objective of the Strengthening the National Statistical System Project for Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) is to improve the capacity of the Lao PDR statistical system (LSS) to produce and disseminate good quality statistics in a timely manner and to enhance use of key statistics, and in case of an eligible crisis or emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. The project comprises of four components.
The first component, improving availability and quality of statistics objective is to improve the availability and quality of key statistics that meet international standards. It consists of following sub-components: (i) economic statistics; and (ii) social statistics.
The second component, enhancing use of statistic objective is to enhance the use of statistics produced by the LSS through data integration and dissemination. It consists of following sub-components: (i) data integration; (ii) data dissemination; and (iii) information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.
The third component, strengthening institutional capacity and project management consists of following sub-components: (i) strengthening institutional capacity; and (ii) project management.
The fourth component, contingent emergency response component (CERC) will allow rapid reallocation of credits proceeds to respond to unanticipated eligible crises or emergencies.
The World Bank categorized the project risk as 'Low'.
