According to website of the World Bank, the objective of the 'Enhancement and Strengthening of Power Transmission Network in Eastern Region Project' for Bangladesh is to increase the transmission capacity and reliability of the electricity network in the eastern region and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB).
The project comprises of two components.
Componnent 1: The first component, enhancement and strengthening of power network will cover the following activities:
(a) 13 new substations; (b) transmission lines; and (c) replacement of substation and reconductoring.
Componnent 2: The second component, institutional development and implementation support will cover project supervision as well as hiring of an independent procurement expert to help in the evaluation of the international competitive bids. It consists of following sub-components:
(i) Definition and implementation of a new corporate maintenance strategy
(ii) Technical assistance (TA) for PGCB’s institutional development and implementation support.
