According to the Bank’s website, the Economic Competitiveness and Social Inclusion Programme Supplementary Financing (ECSIP-SF) for the Republic of Tanzania consists of an ADB loan of USD 135.61 million; and an ADF loan of UA 15.13 million. The ECSIP was initially designed to support Tanzania’s economic recovery through a two-year programmatic series for the fiscal years (FY) 2022/23 and FY2023/24. The proposed supplementary financing meets the four conditions outlined in the Bank group policy on Program-Based Operations (PBO) related to supplementary PBO which are outlined in Table 3: Eligibility Criteria for Supplemental Financing.
Similar to ECSIP I & II, the overarching development objective of ECSIP-SF is to promote a green and resilient recovery by fostering improved economic governance, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and reinforcing social inclusion. The programme will continue supporting Tanzania’s medium to longterm development agenda while leveraging the achievements of ECSIPI and II.
Environmental Category: [3] Low Risk
ECSIP-SF’s environmental and social risk classification is Category 3, consistent with ECSIP-I and ECSIP-II. Its interventions and expected outcomes are not likely to generate any significant environmental or social risks and impacts that would require E&S risk mitigation actions or management plans.
