According to the Bank’s website, the proposed operation concerns a grant of USD 1 Million from the resources of the Special Relief Fund to the World Food Program as emergency assistance to the Republic of The Sudan towards addressing the immediate food security and nutritional needs of those most vulnerable. This is the Bank Group's response to the current humanitarian consequences of the conflict. This will help to provide lifesaving assistance, reduce morbidity and mortality while contributing to longer term food security and poverty reduction development objectives. The operation will be implemented over a period of 3 months (July 2023 to September 2023).
The objectives of the emergency assistance operation are to: (i) reach nearly 31,755 IDPs, refugees, and those from vulnerable host communities immediately with two months of life-saving food assistance, (ii) support WFP's caseload for nutritional support to meet the anticipated increase in prevention and treatment needs for 12,206 children under-five and pregnant and breastfeeding women experiencing moderate acute malnutrition.
