Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

According to the Bank’s website, the objective of the National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Program (NUWSSP) is to improve access to safe and reliable water supply and sanitation services in selected towns in 16 counties in Kenya.

The program will target 21 towns in 16 counties, with a population of around 1,409,245 people, who will benefit from improved access to water supply and 500,000 people will have improved access to sanitation services. Beneficiary towns have been selected on the basis of demand for water and sanitation in urban cities, shortcomings in last-mile connectivity under the Kenya Sustainable Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Program, and the readiness of sub-projects to be implemented. Marginalized towns in arid and semi-arid areas of the country were also considered. The counties concerned are as follows: Kajiado, Mombasa, Marsabit, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Meru, Muranga, Nandi, Narok, Baringo, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Homa Bay, Migori, Bomet and Uasin Gishu.
The program targets several towns in Kenya that will benefit from improved access to a safe and reliable supply of drinking water and improved sanitation services. For the successful implementation of the program, various stakeholders were consulted, including drinking water service providers, county administrations and the communities that will directly benefit from the program. Civil society organizations were also recognized as key players and consulted.

Contact Information
This section aims to support the local communities and local CSO to get to know which stakeholders are involved in a project with their roles and responsibilities. If available, there may be a complaint office for the respective bank which operates independently to receive and determine violations in policy and practice. Independent Accountability Mechanisms receive and respond to complaints. Most Independent Accountability Mechanisms offer two functions for addressing complaints: dispute resolution and compliance review.
