La construcción de la carretera Salto–Monteagudo, de 60 kilómetros, es el último tramo que resta en la ruta nacional Diagonal Jaime Mendoza dentro de territorio chuquisaqueño.  El objetivo de la ruta es favorecer una eficiente conexión vial regional mediante inversiones en la rehabilitación y construcción del corredor vial de integración exportadora oeste–surdel país, como al abastecimiento interno y la mejora en la seguridad vial.

La carretera Salto–Monteagudo incluye los túneles de Cazaderos (2.151 metros) y Cazaderitos (1.248 metros), consideradas las rutas subterráneas más grandes de Bolivia.
