El objetivo general del “Programa de Apoyo a la Gestión de Políticas Públicas para la Seguridad Alimentaria” se centra en contribuir al fortalecimiento de la gestión, normas y estrategias en torno a la seguridad alimentaria, impulsando la adopción de políticas de gestión de riesgos de desastres derivadas del cambio climático para coadyuvar al desarrollo económico y social del país. (Decreto Supremo Nº 3056, 18 de enero de 2017)

El proyecto está alineado con la meta 6 del Pilar 6 del Plan de Desarrollo Económico y Social 2016-2020 en el Marco del Desarrollo Integral para Vivir Bien (2016), que señala que al 2020 se espera el incremento del rendimiento promedio de los productos agrícolas más importantes vinculados con la seguridad alimentaria (cereales, estimulantes, hortalizas, frutales, oleaginosas, tubérculos y forrajes, entre otros).
