Project Description

According to the Inter-American Development Bank Invest (IDB Invest), formerly the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC, the project provides funds to Portland Holdings Inc. The company will use the funds to invest in mid-size companies poised for national or regional expansion in the areas of communications, finance, alternative energy, agribusiness, and infrastructure.

Financial Intermediary
A financial intermediary is a bank or financial institution that receives funds from a development bank. The IDB Invest lists the following private actor description on its website: "Portland Holdings is a leading group in the Caribbean with a significant amount of wealth invested and realized in the region through AIC Caribbean Fund and prior investment vehicles. Through its public and private equity investments, Portland Holdings is a significant owner in a number of businesses relevant to the Fund’s investment strategy."

If you submit a complaint to MICI, they may assist you in addressing the problems you raised through a dispute-resolution process with those implementing the project and/or through an investigation to assess whether the IDB or IIC is following its own policies for preventing or mitigating harm to people or the environment.
