Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

The Inter-American Development Bank has released little information about the specific objectives and components of this co-financing project. It says that the general objective is to increase agricultural income and food security for smallholder farmers in selected areas of Haiti. The specific objectives that the Bank cites are to increase agricultural productivity and improve the use of natural capital through the adoption of sustainable technology. 

The original Bank website for HA-L1107 includes more information about the overall project. The project is centered around technology transfer to aid smallholder farmers, and will involve the following components:

  1. Applied research and training for the development and adaptation of sustainable agricultural technologies.
  2. Promotion of sustainable agricultural technologies. 

The program will partially or totally subsidize farmers' access to agricultural inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, etc), equipment, and services related to these technologies. 

Early Warning System Project Analysis
For a project with severe or irreversible impacts to local community and natural resources, the Early Warning System Team may conduct a thorough analysis regarding its potential impacts to human and environmental rights.

For the original project HA-L1107, the Bank has identified the following risks:

The project location is prone to earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, landslides, droughts, and climate-realted changes that will exacerate the issues.
