As stated by the CDB, this project will improve UWI's institutional resilience through digital transformation, allowing for the expansion of online academic programmes and bolstered ICT infrastructure. The UWI Digital Transformation Project will facilitate tertiary education accessibility, inclusive student engagement, improved learning and business continuity, inclusive student engagement thereby ensuring UWI's competitiveness in the evolving educational landscape.
As stated by the CDB, the Project is categorised “B” based on the CDB Environmental and Social Review Procedures. There is the potential for limited adverse environmental or social impacts/risks for which mitigation and management measures are known and available.
As stated on the institution's website, starting as a university college of London in Jamaica with 33 medical students in 1948, The UWI has evolved into a modern, future-driven, activist, top-ranked academy with over 50,000 students.
