According to the CDB, the project will improve the efficiency and climate resilience of the water supply and distribution infrastructure; expand the climate resilience and treatment performance of wastewater systems; and enhance the operational capacity of Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Ltd..
More specifically, this Technical Assistance project will produce a strategic plan for medium to long term interventions in the water sector and will catalyse the identification of climate resilient options for upgrading the water supply and wastewater infrastructure in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The project will also develop detailed designs for priority interventions, which would facilitate the appraisal and financing of infrastructure projects.
As stated on the company's website, the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) is a registered company wholly owned by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. DOWASCO was established by an act of Parliament – Water and Sewerage Act #17, in December 1989 and incorporated in the same year.
Prior to incorporation, the Company was known as National Water Services which was also called the Central Water Authority up to 1986.
