Project Description
If provided by the financial institution, the Early Warning System Team writes a short summary describing the purported development objective of the project and project components. Review the complete project documentation for a detailed description.

As stated by the AfDB, the study aims to evaluate the feasibility and viability of a hydropower generation and transmission project at the Nsongezi hydro site. It includes technical, economic, and financial assessments; preparation of detailed designs and tender documents; and comprehensive environmental and social studies such as an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), and Stakeholder Engagement Plan. The study will conduct a gender analysis to develop a gender action plan and compile a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) to support project implementation and investment.

The project site is located downstream of the recently completed 87MW Rusumo HPP and Kikagati/Murongo 14MW HP project between Tanzania and Uganda lead by TANESCO and UETCL respectively. The Nsongezi River hydropower generation and associated transmission project is part of the Lake Victoria ring and part of Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania Power System Development Master Plans for several years now. The project is envisaged to contribute to increased generation and transmission capacity. The project’s transmission infrastructure will integrate with the Uganda-Tanzania interconnector through the Masaka- Mwanza power interconnector and with the Rwanda-Uganda power interconnector through the EDCL, UETCL and TANESCO networks.

The East African Community (EAC), an intergovernmental organization comprising of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, DRC, and Somalia, will be the implementing agency.

Contact Information
This section aims to support the local communities and local CSO to get to know which stakeholders are involved in a project with their roles and responsibilities. If available, there may be a complaint office for the respective bank which operates independently to receive and determine violations in policy and practice. Independent Accountability Mechanisms receive and respond to complaints. Most Independent Accountability Mechanisms offer two functions for addressing complaints: dispute resolution and compliance review.
