According to the bank website, the objectives of the project are to contribute to the country's social and economic development by providing a more efficient and effective transport corridor and to promote trade and regional integration along the Mtwara Development Corridor. The specific project objectives are to improve accessibility and road transport services along the corridor by reducing travel time and vehicle operating costs and improving road traffic safety along the road.
