As stated by the AfDB (translated with DeepL.com), the photovoltaic park project in the village of Salimdè, near Sokodé will supply the public grid with renewable energy. It will increase the country's electricity production capacity, and will supply electricity origin renewable more than 700,000 people in Togo, for which access to electricity is currently limited.
In this way, the project contributes to the national strategy of access to electricity for all, and also to the promotion of renewable energies in the country's energy mix.
According to the AfDB (translated with DeepL.com), on September 1, 2022, the Agence Togolaise pour l'Electrification Rurale et les Energies Renouvelables (AT2ER) launched a call for tenders for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 42 MWac photovoltaic solar power plant located at Salimdé, in the central region of Togo, within the framework of the World Bank Group's Scaling Solar.
Meridiam was the only pre-qualified bidder to submit a bid for the Project in January 2023. This context and the need to develop this high priority project led AT2ER to cancel the tender procedure in order to proceed with direct negotiations with Meridiam, joined then by EDF.
To this end, Meridiam and EDF were selected to act as prime contractors for the project, and set up the project company Sokodé Energie, a simplified joint-stock company under Togolese law. On December 3, 2023, Sokodé Energie signed a 25-year Concession Agreement with the Republic of Togo for the design, construction, financing and operation of a photovoltaic solar power plant in central Togo.
As stated by Bloomberg, Meridiam SAS operates as an asset management firm. The Company specializes in public and community infrastructure. Meridiam serves clients globally.
